Bloomerang vs Neon One vs 4aGoodCause: Pricing, Donor Experience & CRM Features Compared

4aGoodCause blog post featured image

If you’ve been researching nonprofit CRM platforms, you’ve probably come across Bloomerang and Neon One (often referred to as Neon CRM). Both are established donor management systems designed to help nonprofits organize donor data, streamline communication, and build relationships with donors long-term.

But as more nonprofits look for tools that combine fundraising, events, donation forms, and donor management in one place, fundraising-first platforms are entering the conversation too. That’s why it’s important to look beyond the label of “CRM” and think about what your organization actually needs day to day.

After over two decades working with nonprofits, one thing has become very clear: The “best” platform may not be the one with the longest feature list. That’s especially true for small to midsize nonprofits, where limited staff time and resources can make overly complicated software more of a burden than a benefit.

The “right” platform is the one your team can realistically use and sustain day to day and helps you grow without adding unnecessary complexity, steep learning curves, or extra costs.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through:

Important note: There are no affiliate links in this article. I wasn’t paid to review these platforms or include their links here. While I do share how 4aGoodCause stacks up (yes, that’s the platform my team and I built), this guide aims to help you make the best, most informed decision for your mission based on my years of guiding nonprofits.

Bloomerang vs. Neon CRM vs. 4aGoodCause: Pros and cons

Let me be clear: both Bloomerang and Neon One are solid platforms. I’ve seen nonprofits succeed with each of them. They’re both CRM-first solutions, which means their core strength is managing donor data and relationships.

Here’s a closer look at how they compare:

Shared strengths of Bloomerang and Neon CRM

Both platforms offer:

  • Robust donor databases: Track giving history, donor interactions, segmentation, and relationship data in one centralized system—without relying on disconnected spreadsheets or manual workflows.
  • Engagement and retention tools: Features designed to help you stay connected with supporters and reduce donor attrition
  • Email marketing capabilities: Send communications directly from the platform (though functionality varies)
  • Reporting and analytics: Generate reports on fundraising performance, donor trends, and campaign results
  • Native integrations: Both Bloomerang and Neon One have native integrations with popular tools like Constant Contact, Mailchimp, and Quickbooks, and more. (They also both have a Zapier integration, making it easy to connect with thousands of other apps and tools like Salesforce, Google Analytics, Slack, 4aGoodCause, etc)

Unique features

When comparing Bloomerang vs. Neon CRM specifically, each platform has distinct strengths:

Bloomerang’s unique advantages:

  • Retention focus: Designed to help nonprofits improve donor retention with engagement scoring, retention tracking, and outreach automation tools that make it easier to identify at-risk donors and reconnect before they lapse.
  • Simpler interface: Generally considered more user-friendly and easier to learn than Neon One
  • Fundraising module quality: According to my analysis, Bloomerang’s fundraising pages and tools tend to perform better than Neon One’s fundraising module

Neon One’s unique advantages:

  • Broader operational coverage: Goes beyond CRM to offer modules for grants management, accounting, volunteer coordination, and membership management
  • All-in-one approach: If you want everything in one system (CRM, event ticketing, volunteers, fundraising, membership), Neon One offers that breadth
  • Membership organization fit: The robust membership module makes this a stronger choice for associations and membership-based nonprofits that need to track annual renewals

🏆 Success story: Learn how this small, independent radio station experienced ~5X growth shortly after switching to 4aGoodCause. Within a short time, their monthly giving had increased over 438%!

Common limitations and challenges

While both platforms have their strengths, there are some important considerations:

Bloomerang:

  • Cost adds up with modules: When you add fundraising, volunteers, or other modules, the monthly cost can increase significantly. It’s not uncommon for nonprofits to pay thousands of dollars per year.
  • Fundraising not the core focus: While available, fundraising tools are not as optimized as dedicated fundraising platforms
  • Limited customization: Some users report wanting more flexibility in customizing forms and reporting

Neon One:

  • Complexity and learning curve: People frequently mention that the platform feels heavy and has a steep learning curve
  • Confusing reporting: Multiple reviews cite frustration with pulling the right data and running consistent reports
  • Customer service concerns: Support is primarily ticket-based with 24-hour response times; live help may require additional fees
  • Clunky integrations: Some people report integration challenges with third-party tools
  • Payment lock-in: Neon Pay is proprietary and built on Payrix Pro technology—you cannot take it with you if you switch platforms
  • Limited design flexibility: Fundraising pages and forms may not meet best practices for conversion optimization
  • Module costs add up: Like Bloomerang, adding different modules (membership, events, volunteers) increases your monthly costs

Both platforms:

  • Not optimized for recurring giving growth: Neither platform is specifically built to prioritize or nurture monthly giving programs the way dedicated fundraising platforms do
  • CRM-first, fundraising second: These are donor management systems first, which means optimizing for online donations isn’t the primary focus
  • More suited for mid-to-larger nonprofits: Despite positioning themselves as affordable for small nonprofits, the pricing and complexity tend to favor mid-size organizations
4aGoodCause has been a game-changer for our fundraising. As a first-time nonprofit, this makes reporting, organizing, and communicating with donors feel simple and clear towards supporting our monthly giving campaign. And what really sets it apart is Ronald. Having real, human support—not some automated robot—has made all the difference. He’s helped me learn, stay consistent, and actually grow in how I manage relationships. Highly recommend.

Alternative option: 4aGoodCause

Now, let me share a different approach that is especially worth considering, especially if you’re a small to midsize nonprofit.

I built 4aGoodCause specifically to address a gap I kept seeing in the nonprofit fundraising space: Platforms were either great at CRM and data management OR great at fundraising and donor conversion—but rarely both, and rarely at a price small nonprofits could afford.

Here’s what makes 4aGoodCause different:

  • Primary strength: Optimized donation pages, conversion-focused design, and tools specifically built to grow monthly giving
  • Lightweight CRM: Basic donor management for organizations that don’t need heavy CRM functionality
  • Integration strategy: We integrate seamlessly with both Bloomerang AND Neon One via Zapier—so you can use our high-converting fundraising pages while keeping your donor data in the CRM you already use

Key features:

  • Monthly Giving Toolkit: Dedicated resources and tools to help you launch and grow a successful recurring giving program right alongside your traditional fundraising strategies
  • Transparent pricing: Flat monthly fee with no hidden costs—starts at $99/month in your first year
  • Payment flexibility: Use 4aGC Payments (lowest fees at 2.65% + $0.30 + monthly fees for all cards) or bring your own Stripe account with full portability
  • Donor tips go to YOU: When optional donor tips are enabled, 100% go to your nonprofit—not to us
  • All features included: No add-on modules—everything is included in your plan
  • Personal support: Real-time phone support from actual humans who understand nonprofit strategy and want to see you succeed

The average monthly donor gives $660 per year with the 4aGoodCause platform. And while the 2025 M+R Benchmarks Study mentions the average recurring monthly donation for nonprofits is $24, we’ve found that the 4aGoodCause’s monthly giving average is $55 per month.

Important note: It doesn’t have to be either/or. Many organizations use 4aGoodCause for high-converting fundraising pages and monthly giving campaigns while maintaining their donor data in Bloomerang or Neon One. The integration allows you to get the best of both worlds.

Bloomerang vs. Neon One vs. 4aGC: What do real users think?

Let me share what actual users are saying about these platforms on review sites like G2 and Capterra.

Bloomerang user reviews

Overall ratings (as of this article’s publication):

What users say about Bloomerang:

Users consistently praise Bloomerang’s user-friendly interface and effectiveness at donor management. In a G2 review, Philip D. shares: “The system is user-friendly, with tools that are simple yet effective. The communication features available in the system help enrich and sustain our relationships with supporters and donors.”

However, pricing remains a significant concern, particularly for smaller nonprofits. Kaitlyn S. offers this honest assessment: “Overall, our experience with Bloomerang was positive in terms of ease of use and donor management, but it ultimately wasn’t the right long-term fit for our small nonprofit.”

Neon One user reviews

Overall ratings (as of this article’s publication):

What users say about Neon One:

Users appreciate Neon One as a comprehensive all-in-one platform. In a G2 review Edmund S. shares: “NEON makes it easy to track donors, and its flexibility also allows us to engage with our donor base using different metrics.”

However, the platform’s complexity presents real challenges for smaller organizations. Alyssa A. offers this candid perspective: “I love using Neon CRM for storing relationship data and historical context of our organization’s stakeholders.” But she continues: “The system is intricate and complex and can be overwhelming for someone who does not have a background in data systems.”

Alyssa A.'s review
Alyssa A.'s review

This echoes a common theme in reviews: while Neon One offers impressive breadth and depth, maximizing its value requires significant time investment and technical capacity—something that may be challenging for resource-constrained nonprofits.

4aGoodCause user reviews

Overall ratings (as of this article’s publication):

What users say about 4aGoodCause:

For nonprofits evaluating Bloomerang or Neon One, the appeal is clear: comprehensive donor databases with robust tracking and retention tools. But some organizations find that what they really need isn’t a heavy CRM—it’s a platform that prioritizes fundraising growth, particularly recurring gifts, without the complexity or cost… that comes with a built-in donor CRM that makes things seamless in one platform.

That’s the gap 4aGoodCause fills.

Bev W. explains her choice in a G2 review: “I use 4aGoodCause as a CRM and fundraising platform, which helps us increase recurring donations and organize our fundraising efforts and data. I appreciate that it’s reasonably priced and has an easy interface for non-tech-savvy staff. It’s perfect for a nonprofit of our size because it doesn’t overwhelm us with too many bells and whistles.”

Irene B. echoes this sentiment: “I use 4aGoodCause for donor management, outreach, managing specific campaigns, and our year-round membership efforts… It’s not an overwhelming platform, and you can grow with it as your organization grows.”

The focus on monthly giving growth shows up consistently in user experiences. Lisa K. shares in her G2 review: “Recurring donations have become a huge portion of our annual donation revenue.” She adds: “The ease of use is fantastic; the platform is super intuitive… I appreciate how the control allows me to assist donors with their donations easily, whether they need to increase amounts, cancel, or update their payment methods.”

How do Bloomerang, Neon One, and 4aGC compare on price?

Let’s get into the details that really matter: what you’ll actually pay.

Both Bloomerang and Neon One use pricing models that can make it difficult to predict your true monthly cost, especially as you add features or grow your donor base.

Bloomerang pricing explained

Bloomerang only publishes “starting” prices, so you’ll need to contact their sales team for a specific quote, and make sure to double-check current pricing. (See more on Bloomerang’s pricing here.)

Base CRM pricing:

  • Pricing tiers based on number of constituent records (starts at $125/mo)
  • As your database grows, your monthly cost increases

Add-on modules (each adds to your base cost):

  • Fundraising module: Starts at an additional $40/mo (donation forms, peer-to-peer, and online giving tools)
  • Volunteer module: starts at $119/mo (volunteer management)

Payment processing:

  • Bloomerang Pay: They have a native payment processor as part of their system, powered by Stripe.
  • Processing fees vary and are higher than industry standards

Important considerations:

  • Total cost can easily reach around into the thousands for small to mid-size nonprofits when you add modules
  • Costs increase as your donor database grows

Neon One pricing explained

Neon One uses a revenue-based pricing model, which means your cost is tied to how much your organization raises annually rather than how many donor records you have in your database.

This approach (which 4aGoodCause also uses) can be more equitable for growing nonprofits—you’re not penalized for expanding your donor base or maintaining relationships with lapsed donors. (See more on Neon One’s pricing here.)

Base CRM pricing:

  • Starting at $99/month for the core CRM
  • Pricing increases based on your annual fundraising revenue
  • This base price gives you the donor database and basic CRM functionality

Module-based pricing (these add percentages or flat fees to your base cost):

According to the pricing document I reviewed, here’s how add-ons work:

  • Membership module: Adds a percentage cost based on your CRM fee
  • Events module: Adds a percentage cost, PLUS $1 per ticket sold
  • Volunteers module: Adds a percentage cost based on your CRM fee
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising: Adds an extra 1.5% fee on every transaction
  • Website hosting: $69/month if you want Neon to host a website for you
  • Text messaging: $0.03 per message

Payment processing with Neon Pay:

Neon Pay is Neon One’s proprietary payment processor (built on Payrix Pro technology). Here are the fees:

  • Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover): 3.19% + $0.35 per transaction
  • American Express: 4.19% + $0.35 per transaction
  • ACH/e-check: 1% + $1.25 per transaction

These are pretty hefty percentages, compared to both 4aGC payment processing (under 3%).

Critical payment concern:

Neon Pay is proprietary to Neon One—so you cannot take it with you if you switch platforms. This creates a significant lock-in. If you move to another CRM or fundraising platform, you’ll need to set up an entirely new payment processor, which can disrupt recurring donations and donor payment information.

Donor tips:

With Neon One, you can enable “donor covered fees,” which gives donors the option to cover the payment processing cost associated with their donation (according to Neon One, about 42% of donors choose to do this).

It’s important to understand what those extra dollars are actually covering, though: they help offset transaction processing costs tied to the donation itself—not your organization’s subscription or platform fees. Those funds go toward Neon One’s payment processing costs, and nonprofits don’t have flexibility in how those fees are applied.

💡Fun fact: All donor tips through 4aGoodCause go directly to your organization—not the platform.

4aGoodCause pricing explained

Our pricing is deliberately simple and transparent:

Base platform:

  • Grassroots: $99/month ($1,188/year) – Process up to $50K online, all features included
  • Growing: $199/month ($2,388/year) – Process up to $250K online, all features included
  • Enterprise: $299/month ($3,588/year) – Unlimited processing, all features included

Payment processing:

  • 4aGC Payments: 2.65% + $0.30 for all cards plus monthly fees (including American Express—no higher fee)
  • Bring your own Authorize.net or Stripe account: You can use your own Authorize.net or Stripe account with your own negotiated payment processing fee and full portability
  • No lock-in: If you ever leave 4aGoodCause, you keep your Stripe account and all your donor payment information

Optional donor tips:

  • You can enable optional donor tips, capped at 4% maximum
  • 100% of donor tips go to your nonprofit—we keep nothing
  • This is additional revenue for your organization, not for us
Ronald and his team are VERY responsive when it comes to tech support questions and have been great fundraising consultants to us at each stage of our campaign. The subscription has more than paid for itself and I will be recommending 4aGC to all my colleagues in the not-for-profit sector.

Bloomerang vs. Neon One vs. 4aGC: Which platform is right for you?

After 25+ years working with nonprofits, I’ve learned there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. The right choice depends on your specific needs, budget, and goals.

Here’s my honest assessment of when each platform makes the most sense:

Choose Bloomerang if:

  • You need a modern, user-friendly CRM: Bloomerang excels at donor database management and retention tracking
  • Donor retention is your primary concern: The platform is built around engagement metrics and identifying at-risk donors or potential major gift prospects.
  • You want simpler onboarding: If ease of use is critical and you don’t need extensive operational tools, Bloomerang’s learning curve is gentler than Neon One’s
  • You’re a mid-size nonprofit: Organizations with established fundraising programs and budgets for $200-$400/month in software costs
  • CRM is your main need, fundraising is secondary: You have other tools for fundraising or your giving is primarily offline

📚Learn more: Want to see how other software options compare to Bloomerang? Check out our in-depth guides: Bloomerang vs. Little Green Light, Bloomerang vs. DonorPerfect, and Bloomerang vs. Blackbaud.

Choose Neon One if:

  • You want an all-in-one operations hub: If you need CRM + events + volunteers + membership + grants management all in one place, Neon One offers that breadth
  • You’re a membership organization: The robust membership module makes this a strong fit for associations and membership-based nonprofits
  • You have internal tech capacity: Someone on your team has the time and technical ability to navigate the learning curve and manage a complex system
  • You need specific modules Bloomerang doesn’t offer: Particularly around grants management, accounting integration, or comprehensive membership tools
  • You’re committed to their ecosystem: You’re comfortable with Neon Pay lock-in and the revenue-based pricing model as your fundraising grows

Choose 4aGoodCause if:

  • Growing monthly giving is a priority: This is our specialty—we’re built specifically to help you launch and grow recurring donation programs right alongside your traditional fundraising efforts, like events and P2P fundraising.
  • You want high-converting fundraising pages: Our donation forms are optimized for conversion, not just data collection. 4aGoodCause donation pages convert at 27% on average—more than double the industry benchmark.
  • You need transparent, predictable pricing: Flat monthly fees with no surprise add-ons or costs that scale unpredictably
  • You value payment flexibility: Keep full control of your payment processing with Stripe portability
  • You want donor tips to benefit your mission: When tips are enabled, 100% go to your nonprofit
  • You already have a CRM (or need a lighter one): If your CRM needs are light, 4aGC has everything you’ll need. But if you need something more robust, we integrate with Bloomerang, Neon One, and other CRMs easily via Zapier. That means you can use our fundraising tools while keeping your data where it is
  • You’re a small to mid-size nonprofit: Organizations raising $25,000-$1M+ annually who want to maximize every dollar

The hybrid approach: Best of both worlds

Here’s something important to consider: You don’t have to choose just one platform.

Many of our clients use 4aGoodCause for their fundraising and monthly giving campaigns while maintaining their donor data in Bloomerang or Neon One. Our integration capabilities mean you can:

  • Keep your comprehensive donor database in your CRM of choice
  • Use 4aGoodCause’s high-converting donation pages and monthly giving tools
  • Have all donation data flow back into your CRM automatically
  • Avoid the complexity and cost of using a CRM’s less-optimized fundraising module

This approach gives you:

  • The robust CRM features you need for donor management
  • Purpose-built fundraising tools that actually convert
  • More flexibility and lower total cost than buying everything from one vendor
  • No payment processor lock-in

You don’t need to work harder to raise more. 4aGoodCause makes it easy.

Here at 4aGoodCause, I believe in keeping things simple, human, and generous.

I built this platform specifically for nonprofit organizations like yours—teams that want to raise funds without chasing workarounds, absorbing hidden fees, or risking donor engagement in the process.
