Bloomerang vs. Little Green Light: Which CRM is Right for Your Nonprofit?

4aGoodCause blog post featured image

If you’ve been researching donor management software, Bloomerang and Little Green Light have almost certainly shown up on your list. They’re both well-regarded, both built for nonprofits, and both centered on helping you manage your donor relationships more effectively.

But here’s something that isn’t always obvious from their websites: While these two cloud-based platforms are often compared side by side, they’re really built for very different types of organizations—and very different budgets. Understanding that distinction upfront can save you a lot of time… and a lot of second-guessing.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through:

Important note: There are no affiliate links in this article. We weren’t paid to review these platforms. While we do share how 4aGoodCause stacks up (yes, that’s our platform), this guide aims to help you make the best, most informed decision for your mission. I’ve spent more than 25 years helping nonprofits build online fundraising programs, and I have experience working inside both Bloomerang and Little Green Light—migrating clients, troubleshooting, and getting a firsthand look at what each platform does well. I’ll share that experience as honestly as I can.

Bloomerang vs. Little Green Light: What do these platforms do?

The short answer is: both Bloomerang and Little Green Light are in the same category (both are web-based donor management CRMs), but they’re aimed at nonprofit organizations with different needs.

Bloomerang is a modern, full-featured nonprofit platform that includes a CRM, fundraising software, and a volunteer management system.

It started as a CRM and has grown significantly through acquisitions, adding a full fundraising suite (Bloomerang Fundraising, formerly Qgiv) and tools for managing volunteers. If you want one platform to run nearly every aspect of your nonprofit operations, Bloomerang is built for that. You’re going to pay for it, but the depth of capability is there.

Little Green Light is a CRM built specifically for small nonprofits that need solid donor management without enterprise-level complexity or cost.

It does the core CRM work well: contact tracking, gift history, acknowledgment letters, basic reporting. It isn’t trying to be a full fundraising platform. Its online donation capability is minimal, and that’s by design.

So before you compare them feature for feature, the more useful questions might be:

  • What does your organization actually need right now?
  • What does your budget realistically support?

A closer look at Bloomerang

Bloomerang is, in my view, one of the best modern user-friendly, all-in-one nonprofit CRM on the market. That’s a genuine compliment!

They’ve built something that covers an impressive amount of ground, and the user interface is clean and approachable.

What Bloomerang does well:

Bloomerang is organized around three core products that can be purchased individually or together:

  • Bloomerang CRM: Their original and flagship product, with strong donor management, predictive giving insights, engagement tracking, direct mail and email tools, custom reporting, and data management. This is genuinely one of the better CRM products available for nonprofits in my experience.
  • Bloomerang Fundraising: Their fundraising suite, built on the Qgiv platform they acquired. These features cover donation forms, event registration, text fundraising, peer-to-peer campaigns, auctions, and membership. It’s a solid set of donor engagement tools and I don’t have a lot of complaints about how it performs.
  • Bloomerang Volunteer: A dedicated volunteer management system (also acquired, formerly InitLive) for tracking volunteer hours, scheduling, and communication.

Together, these three products genuinely can cover most of what a nonprofit organization needs to run its operations. Their educational content is also excellent; they have one of the better nonprofit blogs around, with regular guides, webinars, and newsletters that help their clients get better at fundraising, not just at using the software.

What to think carefully about with Bloomerang:

The depth of Bloomerang’s platform comes with real investment. This isn’t necessarily a criticism; it’s just an important reality to understand before you start a conversation with their sales team.

  • Pricing is custom and contact-based. Based on community conversations and clients I’ve spoken with, organizations can spend anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000 or more per year depending on which products they use and how many contacts they have in their database. And of course, this can be a big barrier for small to midsize nonprofits or charities that are just starting out.
  • Payment processing also deserves close attention. Bloomerang pushes organizations toward Bloomerang Payments, their in-house Stripe-based processing layer. The rates are notably higher than what you’d pay with a standard nonprofit Stripe account—around 4% for Visa transactions versus the 2.2% nonprofits typically qualify for. There’s also an added 1% fee for peer-to-peer transactions that’s difficult to justify. If you want to bring your own payment processor, you can, but you’ll pay an additional 2% penalty for doing so. For organizations processing significant donation volume, this is worth running the numbers on carefully.
  • Support is tiered. Chat support is included, but access to phone support and higher-touch service comes at an additional cost. It’s a standard model for larger providers, but worth knowing if you’re used to a more personal customer support team. (Alternatively, 4aGoodCause is known by our clients for our fast, personalized support.)
  • Their fundraising pages are multi-step, which breaks a best practice I’d recommend for maximizing conversion rates. In practice, most users don’t find them difficult, but it’s a nuance worth noting.

A closer look at Little Green Light

Little Green Light has carved out a well-earned reputation among small nonprofits as a CRM that delivers solid functionality without requiring a large technology budget.

And for organizations whose primary need is a clean, organized donor management database, it delivers on that promise.

What Little Green Light does well:

  • Core CRM functionality: Contact management, gift tracking, constituent coding, major gift tracking, basic volunteer management, membership management, and a stable set of reports. It covers the fundamentals that most small nonprofits need in a donor database.
  • Budget-friendly pricing: Pricing is based on the number of constituent records, with plans starting at $45/month for up to 2,500 contacts and scaling to $135/month for up to 50,000. For organizations watching every dollar, this is one of the most accessible CRM entry points available.
  • Integration-forward philosophy: Little Green Light knows that its clients will often need to connect other tools for things like event registration or fundraising pages. Their integrations list is robust (they easily integrate with email marketing providers like ConstantContact or Mailchimp, for example). Their Zapier connection also makes it straightforward to sync data with 4aGoodCause.
  • No platform transaction fees: If you use their fundraising forms (called “LGL Forms”), Little Green Light doesn’t take a cut. You connect your own Stripe account and pay Stripe’s standard rates; they’re not inserting themselves as a payment middleman.

What to think carefully about with Little Green Light:

  • LGL Forms aren’t a fundraising platform. Their online donation capability functions more like a form builder than a purpose-built giving experience. The checkout process isn’t optimized for conversion, and the forms break several of the best practices that tend to increase donation rates. Several of our clients have come from LGL specifically because they wanted more optimized donor-facing fundraising pages.
  • Monthly giving support is minimal. Recurring donations are essentially a single field on a form. There’s no toolkit for building and managing a monthly giving program, no donor dashboard where supporters can manage their own recurring gifts, and no upgrade prompts or retention tools.
  • Onboarding is self-directed. Little Green Light is built for organizations that are comfortable getting up and running on their own.
  • The interface, while functional, is less modern than Bloomerang. Some Little Green Light customers find the platform to be user-friendly; others find the learning curve steeper than expected. It depends a lot on your team’s comfort level with database tools.

Another option to consider: 4aGoodCause

If Bloomerang is built for organizations that want an enterprise-grade fundraising platform and Little Green Light is built for organizations that want a solid and streamlined CRM, 4aGoodCause (that’s us!) is built for something in between… and then some.

4aGoodCause (4aGC) is an all-in-one fundraising platform and donor CRM designed specifically for small to mid-size nonprofits that want powerful, modern tools without the complexity or cost that typically comes with them.

That means you get everything from donor management and customizable fundraising pages to event registration, peer-to-peer campaigns, and a full monthly giving program toolkit—all included in a single flat monthly fee (with no features locked behind higher tiers).

In 2025, 4aGC donation pages averaged a 27% conversion rate, compared to an 11% industry average. If you want to raise more without finding more traffic, this is one of the fastest places to win.

Where we know 4aGC really solves big problems for nonprofits is its focus on monthly giving and fundraising best practices… because we built every piece of the platform with classic fundraising, recurring giving, and proven fundraising best practices in mind.

Most platforms treat recurring donations as a checkbox on a form. 4aGC is built around helping your nonprofit launch, grow, and retain a monthly giving program. Our clients get purpose-built tools for donor upgrade prompts, branded donor portals, retention alerts, and donation pages that follow conversion best practices from the ground up.

🤯Did you know? 4aGoodCause makes setting up custom fundraising pages and campaigns a breeze — and makes monthly recurring giving easier than ever — for you and your donors. Learn more.

Working with 4aGC has been great! I would highly recommend. Our online monthly donations have gone up 300% since we started working with them. They listen to feedback and ideas and even implement them. Tech support has been breezy and prompt. It's the personal touch that sets them apart from the rest.

What do Bloomerang and Little Green Light cost?

Pricing in this space is rarely as simple as a number on a website. Here’s a plain-English breakdown of what you’re actually signing up for with each platform.

Bloomerang pricing

Bloomerang doesn’t publish simple pricing tiers because their quotes are customized based on your contact count and which combination of products you need. On their website they have “starting prices,” but the real numbers tend to be significantly higher once you account for your actual database size and feature needs.

Based on my conversations with nonprofits evaluating the platform, organizations are typically investing somewhere between $5,000 and $12,000 (or more) per year. That’s a meaningful commitment, and it’s worth being clear about whether your organization is at a stage where that investment makes sense.

Payment processing is a separate and important consideration. Remember, there’s a 2% penalty if you want to bring your own processor, instead of using Stripe. For organizations processing significant donation volume, those processing costs can represent a sizable additional expense on top of the subscription.

Little Green Light pricing

Little Green Light is genuinely straightforward to budget for. You pay based on how many constituent records you store, there are no hidden fees, and there’s no platform transaction fee on donations.

Plans scale from $45/month for up to 2,500 contacts up to $135/month for up to 50,000 (but check their pricing page for the most current information). This pricing structure makes it one of the most accessible CRM options for small nonprofits working within tight operational budgets.

The important caveat: that fee covers your CRM. If you need more capable fundraising pages, peer-to-peer fundraising tools, or a monthly giving program, your budget will include the costs for another fundraising platform to pair with Little Green Light’s CRM.

4aGoodCause pricing

4aGoodCause uses a flat monthly fee with all features included (starting at $99/month for new clients in the first year). There are no platform transaction fees, no per-contact pricing, and no long-term contract required. You’re not locked in.

On the payment processing side, you’ll have industry standard payment processing costs—and we give you genuine flexibility. You can bring your own processor, connect with options like Authorize.net, work with Stripe, or use our in-house payment processing… and we’ll help you find the right setup for your situation, rather than pushing you toward a specific provider.

And when donors leave optional tips on 4aGoodCause pages, 100% of those tips go to your nonprofit. Not to us.

How does 4aGC partner with Bloomerang or Little Green Light?

One of the things I want to be clear about is that 4aGoodCause doesn’t have to be an either/or choice against Bloomerang or Little Green Light.

For a number of our clients, it’s actually a both/and.

4aGoodCause + Bloomerang CRM

Some nonprofits love Bloomerang’s CRM but don’t need (or don’t want to pay for) the full Bloomerang fundraising suite.

If you’re in that position, pairing the Bloomerang CRM with 4aGoodCause for your fundraising pages gives you the best of both:

  • An impressive donor database alongside purpose-built fundraising tools with more favorable processing costs and
  • A strong suite of fundraising tools and donor forms that power-up your events, P2P fundraising, capital campaigns, and recurring giving with a monthly giving toolkit.

The two platforms connect via Zapier, so your donation data flows back to your CRM automatically.

4aGoodCause + Little Green Light

This is a pairing we’re already doing with several clients, and it’s a natural fit. Little Green Light is a solid, focused CRM for small nonprofits. What it isn’t is a strong fundraising platform.

That’s exactly where 4aGoodCause comes in. You keep your donor database in LGL, run your campaigns and monthly giving program through 4aGoodCause, and sync the data back via Zapier.

We’re even exploring a direct integration with Little Green Light because we think the two platforms serve such complementary audiences.

And of course, if you’re looking for one tool that handles both fundraising and basic donor management, 4aGoodCause can do that too.

Several clients have come to us from LGL specifically because they wanted to simplify to a single giving platform. (Book a demo here.)

💡 Pro tip: If you’re currently using LGL Forms and finding the donation experience frustrating for your donors, you don’t have to migrate your entire donor records database to make a change! Pairing 4aGoodCause with your existing Little Green Light setup is a low-disruption way to upgrade your fundraising pages without starting from scratch.

As a professional web designer I had struggled to find a good all around donation software for my clients. 4aGoodCause not only looks much prettier than other donation pages, it incorporates more features than I've ever seen in one program. My clients have found the campaigns easy to create and customize too. I appreciate the one-on-one demonstration and support. Overall it was easy to set-up, it generates more donations, and my clients love it!

Reviews: What are real users saying about Bloomerang and Little Green Light?

Bloomerang reviews

Bloomerang scores well on major review platforms (earning a 4.7 rating on Capterra and a 4.7 on G2) and has earned recognition for ease of use and customer support. Most Bloomerang customers genuinely appreciate the depth of the platform.

Where the conversation gets more nuanced is around cost, particularly for smaller organizations evaluating whether the investment is the right fit for their stage of growth.

You can really get a feel for how many features and helpful integrations Bloomerang offers from reviews like this one from Amy H., on G2:

When the only thing a user dislikes is that the CRM is “so robust” it takes a while to learn, you know you’re dealing with a really solid nonprofit software option.

Little Green Light reviews

Little Green Light has a loyal following among small nonprofit organizations, and the feedback on pricing and CRM functionality is consistently positive, with a 4.7 rating on Capterra and a 4.4 on G2.

The areas where reviews get more mixed are around the online donation experience and the learning curve for less tech-savvy staff.

In a Capterra review, Devin J. talks about how “flexible and intuitive” the platform has been for their organization:
