Bloomerang vs. DonorPerfect vs. 4aGoodCause: Which Is Best for Your Nonprofit?
If you’re comparing donor management systems, Bloomerang and DonorPerfect are likely on your shortlist. They’re both well-established nonprofit CRMs with thousands of clients.
Bloomerang is a newer option focused on donor retention and all-in-one functionality. DonorPerfect is a traditional database powerhouse with deep workflow capabilities and decades of nonprofit experience.
But I’d also like to offer a third alternative: 4aGoodCause, which could be a great fit if you’re a small to midsize nonprofit who wants a powerful fundraising platform and CRM all in one. Most small to midsize nonprofits don’t need a complex CRM, and I’ve found that most nonprofits can do everything they need to for their donors in a more simplified (and affordable) manner.

A closer look at Boomerang features
Bloomerang has earned a strong reputation in the nonprofit world for good reason. Here’s what stands out:
Modern, retention-focused approach
Bloomerang’s entire platform is built around one core idea: Donor retention matters more than donor acquisition. Their interface reflects this philosophy—everything is designed to help you track engagement, identify at-risk donors, and maintain strong relationships over time.
The user interface is genuinely modern, intuitive, and user-friendly. If you’re coming from an older system or spreadsheets, Bloomerang’s dashboard feels like a breath of fresh air. Your team can get up to speed quickly without extensive training.
All-in-one platform approach
Bloomerang has built (and acquired) tools to cover the full nonprofit lifecycle:
Donor management (CRM)
Fundraising software tools including donation forms, event management, and text-to-give (called Bloomerang Fundraising)
For some organizations, having everything in one place is worth the investment. You avoid juggling multiple platforms and syncing data between systems.
Boomerang limitations
When it comes to cons, the most common feedback I hear from Bloomerang users is the cost and limitations around payment processing.
The module pricing adds up fast
Here’s the reality: Bloomerang’s all-in-one approach sounds great until you see the pricing. Each module (CRM, Fundraising, Volunteer) comes with its own monthly fee. If you want the full suite, you’re looking at a starting price of $284+ per month for ‘The Giving Platform’ package, but it adds up quickly for more contacts and more modules… some nonprofits I know are paying thousands of dollars per year.
For a small nonprofits, that’s a significant ongoing expense (especially if some of the features overlap with tools you’re already using).
Payment processor lock-in
Bloomerang pushes you toward their preferred payment processor (Stripe), which means additional transaction fees and less flexibility. If you already have a good relationship with a payment processor or have negotiated favorable rates, you’re stuck choosing between convenience and cost.

A closer look at DonorPerfect features
DonorPerfect has been around longer than most nonprofit software companies, and that experience shows in a few specific areas:
Mature database with deep features
DonorPerfect is a traditional database tool through and through. If you need complex workflows, detailed reports and segmentation, or sophisticated data management, DonorPerfect has the depth to handle it.
You can create custom data entry screens, build unlimited custom reports, and set up automated workflows for acknowledgments, fundraising letters, and stewardship.
Some strong native integrations with specific tools
DonorPerfect is known for its direct integration with Constant Contact (email marketing) and QuickBooks (financial management). If your organization already uses these tools, DonorPerfect’s native integrations can save you time.
DonorPerfect limitations
There are some noteworthy frustrations when it comes to using DonorPerfect, mostly around complexity of the platform, fundraising tools, integrations, and cost.
Old-school interface and learning curve
Let me be direct: DonorPerfect feels old. The interface looks and acts like database software from the 2000s. If you’re used to modern web apps, you’ll notice the difference immediately.
This isn’t just an aesthetic issue. The older interface comes with a real learning curve. Your team will need training, and there are a lot of features to navigate. For small nonprofits with limited staff, this can be a significant barrier.
Weak fundraising tools
DonorPerfect excels at donor data management and reporting tools, but their fundraising platform lags far behind. DonorPerfect Online Forms is basic at best—think simple donation forms and even registration, nothing more.
They recently acquired GiveCloud to address this gap, but from what I’ve seen, it’s not solving the problem yet. If you’re serious about modern fundraising—peer-to-peer campaigns, compelling landing pages, monthly giving optimization), you’ll likely need to pair DonorPerfect with another tool.
No Zapier integration (major limitation)
Here’s the dealbreaker for many organizations: DonorPerfect does not integrate with Zapier.
This matters because Zapier connects to thousands of modern tools and platforms. Without it, you’re limited to DonorPerfect’s native integrations (Constant Contact, QuickBooks, and a few others). If you want to connect DonorPerfect to modern fundraising platforms, marketing tools, or other nonprofit software, you’re out of luck unless you build a custom integration.
DonorPerfect is designed to be a closed ecosystem: DonorPerfect database, DonorPerfect forms, DonorPerfect payment processing. If you’re okay living entirely within their world, it works. But if you want flexibility and integration with modern tools, you’ll hit walls constantly.
Pricing transparency issues
DonorPerfect doesn’t publish clear pricing on their website. You have to request a custom quote, which typically means they’re pricing based on the number of contacts in your database plus additional fees for payment processing.
Based on historical pricing models and competitor analysis, you’re likely looking at higher costs than other CRM options, especially when you factor in the payment processing lock-in.

Real pricing comparison: Bloomerang vs. DonorPerfect vs. 4aGoodCause
Let’s get specific. Pricing in the nonprofit software world can be confusing, so here’s how much these platforms actually cost when you break everything down:
Bloomerang pricing breakdown
Bloomerang uses a modular pricing approach based on the number of constituents in your donor database. Their Bloomerang CRM pricing starts at $125/month, which includes donor management, analytics, and marketing features.
If you want the full suite of fundraising and volunteer management capabilities to utilize alongside the CRM, you’ll pay extra for those add-ons:
Bloomerang Fundraising: $40/month (donation forms, events, mobile apps)
That means if you’re combining these modules for the full Bloomerang experience, your pricing will start at $284/month. Depending on the size of your donor database, it may start much higher than that, and no matter where you begin, you can count on costs increasing over time as you add more constituents to your donor list.
Additional costs to consider:
Payment processing fees through their processor
Price increases as your database grows
Implementation and training time
Bloomerang offers solid features and a modern interface, but the modular pricing structure can be a source of ongoing frustration for users.
📈 Raise more with the traffic you already have.Donation pages on 4aGoodCause convert an average of 27% of visitors, compared to the 11% industry benchmark.
DonorPerfect pricing breakdown
DonorPerfect’s pricing is less transparent—you won’t find it listed anywhere on their website. You’ll have to fill out the form for a custom quote and talk with their sales team to get a precise price. Based on industry knowledge and historical pricing:
Monthly pricing is based on the number of donor records in your database
Payment processing: Locked into DonorPerfect’s processor with platform fees
Typical range: Likely higher than Bloomerang for comparable database size
The lack of pricing transparency is unsettling. When companies make you jump through hoops to learn what something costs, it usually means the price is higher than competitors and can vary significantly based on your negotiation process.
Zapier integration (connects to thousands of tools)
Bring your own payment processor OR we’ll help you find one that’s a good fit
Optional donor tips that go 100% to your organization (not to us)
Personal support from our team
No platform transaction fees
Full donor data ownership and portability
The biggest difference: You’re not locked in. Cancel anytime, export your data easily, and you own your recurring donor tokens. We built 4aGoodCause to focus on what actually helps nonprofits raise more money.

Can 4aGoodCause integrate with Bloomerang or DonorPerfect?
Here’s a question worth asking: ‘Can I use Bloomerang or DonorPerfect for my CRM and 4aGoodCause for fundraising?’
It’s a smart approach—leverage each platform’s strengths rather than forcing one tool to do everything. The answer depends on which CRM you choose.
Bloomerang: Integration flexibility
Bloomerang integrates with Zapier, which is an important feature. You can automate workflows by connecting to thousands of tools (think Salesforce, Mailchimp, Quickbooks, Eventbrite, etc.)
If you want the full all-in-one Bloomerang experience, you’re expected to use their modules and their payment processor, which can really increase your overall cost per month.
Since Bloomerang integrates with Zapier (and so does 4aGoodCause), donor information can flow automatically between Bloomerang’s CRM and 4aGoodCause.
What that means for you: You get Bloomerang’s donor management platform and retention analytics, while 4aGoodCause handles growing online giving and monthly giving revenue with tools created specifically for that purpose, fundraising pages designed with best practices, and a customer support team that truly understands fundraising strategy, not just software.
It’s a strategic combination that can be more cost-effective than Bloomerang’s full suite, while giving you specialized expertise in the area that matters most for sustainable revenue: recurring donations.
DonorPerfect does not integrate with Zapier. It’s a really serious limitation that can be a deciding factor for a lot of nonprofit organizations.
This means you cannot easily connect DonorPerfect to:
Modern fundraising platforms
Marketing automation tools
Email marketing platforms beyond Constant Contact
Project management software
Communication tools like Slack
And thousands of other business tools
DonorPerfect wants you to use DonorPerfect for everything: DonorPerfect database, DonorPerfect forms, DonorPerfect payment processing. If you’re comfortable with that, it works. If you want flexibility, you’ll constantly hit walls.
What are real users saying about Boomerang, DonorPerfect, and 4aGoodCause
Don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what real users are experiencing with these platforms:
Bloomerang user feedback
Bloomerang has 4.7 stars (out of 5) on G2 and 4.7 on Capterra, earning consistently good reviews, with many users highlighting key features like ease of use, custom reporting, and customer phone support if needed.
Aaron S.’s review on Capterra notes the strong integrations via Zapier and how that has been the “key to taking [their] organization to the next level.” Read his full review:
Aaron S.'s review
Anita S., an executive director of a small nonprofit, says in her G2 review that she loves having “donor and volunteer engagement under one roof.” However, her review also notes the “steep learning curve” of getting used to all of the features: “The challenge is that I need to learn how to make that work for us.”
That sentiment is common for small nonprofits: Bloomerang offers a lot of functionality that is often under-utilized unless you’re a large organization.
Here’s what stands out from reviews: strong customer support and solid donor management features.
Where DonorPerfect gets frustrating for users is lack of customization options, clunky report generation processes, and an interface that is not quite as intuitive as users hoped it would be.
An anonymous reviewer on G2 notes the direct integrations to Constant Contact and Quickbooks, but overall thinks the UI / UX “needs improvement:”
Anonymous reviewer on G2
Christina D., a nonprofit director, raves about the customer support and intuitive integrations in her Capterra review, but she also complains about the “old and clunky” reporting features:
Christina D.'s review
DonorPerfect delivers value in database depth and reporting capabilities—strengths that matter for organizations with complex data needs. But when you’re weighing those benefits against the dated interface, steep learning curve, limited fundraising tools, and premium pricing, it’s worth asking whether the trade-offs make sense for your team and budget.
For many small to mid-size nonprofits, there are more cost-effective paths to sustainable fundraising growth.
4aGoodCause users consistently highlight three things: the platform’s ease of use, the responsive personal support, and real results in growing monthly giving revenue.
Cara Gillaspie, a nonprofit development coordinator, also highlights 4aGoodCause’s easy integrations with a variety of software options:
“
We love 4aGoodCause! It's superior in price, has easy functionality, and integrates with all other software that we use.
Cara Gillaspie
Development Coordinator at GOOD Projects
Nonprofits repeatedly mention that 4aGoodCause does what it promises without unnecessary complexity—and when they have questions, they get answers from real people who understand fundraising strategy and want to see their mission succeed.

Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, or 4aGoodCause: Which platform is best for your organization?
When it comes to choosing the right nonprofit software, there’s no one-size-fits-all for every organization. The right choice completely depends on your specific needs, goals, and constraints.
Here’s how I’d break it down:
Bloomerang might be a good choice if:
You have budget for a comprehensive all-in-one platform ($250-500+/month)
You want everything (CRM, fundraising, volunteer management) in one place and don’t mind paying for it
Modern user interface is a high priority for your team
You’re okay with payment processor lock-in
Donor retention tracking and engagement features are your primary focus
💡Pro-tip: If don’t want to pay for the full Bloomerang suite, you can pair their CRM ($125/month) with 4aGoodCause for fundraising and monthly giving through easy integration via Zapier.
DonorPerfect might be a good choice if:
You’re a larger organization that needs extremely detailed database management and complex reporting
You already use Constant Contact and QuickBooks and want a native integration to these tools
Your team has database expertise and can handle the learning curve of onboarding
You’re willing to live within DonorPerfect’s closed ecosystem
Fundraising tools are secondary to database management for you
Choose 4aGoodCause if:
Your goal is to grow sustainable monthly giving revenue alongside your traditional fundraising efforts
You want a transparent, affordable pricing model with all features included
Data portability and payment processing flexibility matter to you (no lock-in)
You want donor tips to go to your organization, not the software company
Personal support and accessible customer service are important
You want Zapier integration to connect with modern tools
You’re a small to midsize nonprofit that needs powerful fundraising without enterprise complexity
We built 4aGoodCause because we saw too many nonprofits struggling with expensive, complicated systems that didn’t actually help them raise more money.
4aGoodCause combines essential CRM functionality with truly excellent fundraising tools—designed especially to help nonprofits grow their recurring monthly giving program.
My honest recommendation: Choose what helps you raise more and stress less.
After 25 years helping nonprofits raise money, here’s what I’ve learned: The best fundraising platform is the one that helps you raise more money without making your life harder.
Bloomerang and DonorPerfect are both solid tools that serve specific needs. Bloomerang can be a solid choice if you want a modern all-in-one platform and have the budget for it. DonorPerfect works if you need deep database functionality and are okay with older technology.
But if you’re focused on sustainable revenue growth through monthly giving—and you want transparent pricing, personal support, and tools designed to help small nonprofits succeed—I’d encourage you to look at 4aGoodCause.
There’s no pressure, no hard sell. We just want to help you make the best decision for your mission. Book a demo.
