Bloomerang vs. DonorSnap: Honest Comparison for Small Nonprofits (Plus a Third Option to Consider)

4aGoodCause blog post featured image

Choosing between Bloomerang vs. DonorSnap often comes down to one key question: Do you need a sophisticated donor retention platform, or a simple, affordable donor database?

If you’re comparing these two, you’re likely in one of two situations: You already use DonorSnap and wondering if Bloomerang’s extra features justify the higher cost. Or you’re shopping for your first CRM and trying to figure out which approach makes more sense for a small nonprofit.

Both are well-established donor management systems designed specifically for nonprofits. But they take very different approaches to features, integrations, and pricing.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through:

Here’s what many small nonprofits discover after implementing a CRM: the platform that’s best at tracking donors isn’t always the best at helping you raise money. If online fundraising and monthly giving are priorities, you might need to think beyond traditional donor databases.

Important note: There are no affiliate links in this article. I wasn’t paid to review these platforms or include links to their website here. While we do share how 4aGoodCause stacks up (yes, that’s the platform I designed and built with my team), this guide aims to help you make the best, most informed decision for your mission.

Bloomerang vs. DonorSnap vs. 4aGoodCause: Pros and cons

While I’ve built 4aGoodCause (and naturally have some bias), both Bloomerang and DonorSnap are solid donor management systems that have helped countless nonprofits organize their constituent data.

Here’s an honest look at how they compare.

Shared strengths of Bloomerang and DonorSnap

What they both do well:

  • Donor database management: Track contacts, volunteers, donors, and organizations
  • Donation tracking: Record and manage contribution history
  • Communication tools: Send acknowledgment letters and donor communications via email
  • Reporting: Generate custom reports on donor activity
  • Cloud-based: Access your data from anywhere
  • Nonprofit-focused: Built specifically for the nonprofit sector
  • Strong customer support: Both platforms consistently receive high marks for responsive, helpful support teams

Unique strengths

Bloomerang excels at:

  • Donor retention focus: Platform is specifically designed around improving donor retention with engagement scores and automation features for outreach
  • Advanced analytics: Predictive giving insights and wealth screening capabilities
  • Robust integrations: Native integration with Constant Contact, Mailchimp, and Quickbooks. Zapier connectivity allows integration with thousands of other third-party apps.
  • Email marketing: Built-in email marketing tools more sophisticated than basic acknowledgments
  • Volunteer management: Dedicated volunteer module (separate add-on product at $119/month)
  • Modern interface: Clean, intuitive design that is frequently praised for its ease of use

DonorSnap excels at:

  • Affordability compared to Bloomerang: Lower starting price point
  • Simplicity: Straightforward, user-friendly CRM without complex features you may not need
  • AI reporting assistant: DonorSnap Analytics helps with segmentation and generating reports
  • No long-term contracts: Month-to-month flexibility

Missing or limiting functionality

While both platforms are solid donor management software options, there are important limitations to consider:

Bloomerang limitations:

  • Cost structure: Pricing increases automatically as your database grows, even if those records aren’t generating revenue. You pay for every contact—active donors and lapsed donors
  • Fundraising and volunteer tools are add-ons: The CRM product doesn’t include robust fundraising or volunteer management capabilities; you need the full “Giving Platform” bundle which comes at an additional monthly cost
  • No grant management: Not included at any tier

DonorSnap limitations:

  • Very limited fundraising tools: Basic online forms that aren’t designed for conversion or donor experience
  • No donor portal: Donors can’t manage their own recurring gifts, update payment methods, or access tax receipts
  • No peer-to-peer fundraising: Can’t run crowdfunding or team-based campaigns
  • No monthly giving toolkit: No specialized tools for building or managing a recurring giving program
  • Minimal integrations: No Zapier, very limited third-party connections (QuickBooks and Constant Contact are the main native integrations)
  • Event and auction tools cost extra: EventSnap ($100-$800/year + 1-5% event fee) and AuctionSnap ($500-$800/year + 1% event fee) are separate products
  • Payment processing limitations: DonorSnap uses Stripe Connect for payment processing. They also offer payment processing through goEmerchant, which is a non-portable payment processing gateway.
  • Not designed for fundraising: This is fundamentally a database for data management, not a platform for raising money online

🏆 Success story: Learn how one animal welfare organization grew to 400+ recurring donors, achieving ~10–15% year-over-year growth—all powered by the 4aGoodCause fundraising platform.

Alternative option: 4aGoodCause (4aGC)

Here’s the question I ask nonprofits all the time: Are you truly ready for a CRM-first platform built around a more complex database… or do you just need an “everything you need, nothing you don’t” donor management system that helps you fundraise better?

A lot of small to midsize nonprofits hit a stage where spreadsheets stop working well, and the immediate assumption is: “We need a CRM.” But in many cases, what they really need first is better infrastructure to meet their fundraising goals—not a massive donor database with layers of complexity they may never fully use.

What many organizations actually need is a platform that helps them raise (and keep) more money, streamline donor management, and create a better experience for their donors—all while giving them enough donor tracking and reporting to grow comfortably.

That’s where a platform like 4aGoodCause can make a lot of sense. It fills the gap well: stronger fundraising tools paired with lightweight donor management that’s often more than enough for growing nonprofits. Then later, if your organization truly needs more advanced CRM capabilities, you can integrate with a more robust system once the complexity—and budget—actually make sense.

Here’s what makes 4aGoodCause different:

  • Fundraising first: Nearly 100 built-in donation page best practices to help maximize donor conversion (4aGoodCause pages convert an average of 27% of visitors, compared to the 11% industry benchmark). With 4aGoodCause, you get high-converting donation forms, peer-to-peer campaigns, event registration, and text-to-donate, all included
  • Monthly Giving Toolkit: Everything you need to launch and grow a recurring giving program alongside your traditional fundraising efforts (learn more about the benefits of monthly giving for nonprofits.)
  • Light CRM built in: Track donations, donors, campaigns, and communications—the right features for most small to mid-size nonprofits
  • Integrate with your existing CRM if needed: Use 4aGC for fundraising execution while keeping Bloomerang, DonorSnap, or another CRM as your system of record if that is working well for your organization with 4aGC integrations
  • Human support: Access real human help from our team whenever you need it, with no premium tiers or extra fees—unlike platforms that charge more for phone support or limit you to email-only assistance.

Two common approaches with 4aGC:

  1. All-in-one for small teams: Use 4aGC as your complete system (fundraising + donor CRM)
  2. Fundraising layer: Keep your existing CRM, connect it via Zapier, and run all fundraising and monthly giving through 4aGC

The average monthly donor gives $660 per year with the 4aGoodCause platform. And while the 2025 M+R Benchmarks Study mentions the average recurring monthly donation for nonprofits is $24, we’ve found that the 4aGoodCause’s monthly giving average is $55 per month.

What real users say about Bloomerang, DonorSnap, and 4aGoodCause

Both platforms maintain strong reputations in review sites. Here’s what stands out from actual user feedback:

What users say about Bloomerang

Bloomerang maintains strong ratings: 4.6 out of 5 stars on G2 and 4.7 out of 5 on Capterra.

The standout strength: Ease of use paired with powerful capabilities. Philip D. shared on G2: “The system is user-friendly, with tools that are simple yet effective. The communication features available in the system help enrich and sustain our relationships with supporters and donors.”

The main drawback mentioned in reviews is cost. For smaller nonprofits, pricing can become a dealbreaker. Kaitlyn S. offered this candid assessment on Capterra: “Overall, our experience with Bloomerang was positive in terms of ease of use and donor management, but it ultimately wasn’t the right long-term fit for our small nonprofit.”

Kaitlyn S.'s review

The bottom line from users: Bloomerang delivers on ease of use and donor management capabilities, but the per-record pricing model can price out smaller organizations as they grow.

What users say about DonorSnap

DonorSnap maintains a strong rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars on Capterra and 4.1 stars on G2.

One of the most commonly praised strengths of DonorSnap is the customer support and training resources. Carole R. shared on Capterra: “I am truly impressed with the customer service at Donor Snap, as well as the extensive library of webinars and handouts.”

Sarah H. captured both the strengths and trade-offs well: “Our team needed a solid foundation as we launched our development department, and after so much research, I’m happy we landed with DonorSnap.” She continues: “The dashboard takes a little bit of getting used to. It’s not as intuitive as many modern apps and websites, but the training makes up for it.”

DonorSnap wins on affordability and support when compared to Bloomerang, but teams should expect to invest time learning a less intuitive interface—and recognize you’ll need additional tools or add-ons for robust fundraising capabilities.

What users say about 4aGoodCause

4aGoodCause has a solid reputation in reviews: 4.7 stars out of 5 on G2 and 4.7 stars on Capterra.

Users consistently highlight how the platform balances simplicity with powerful features. In a G2 review, Bev W. shares: “I use 4aGoodCause as a CRM and fundraising platform, which helps us increase recurring donations and organize our fundraising efforts and data. I appreciate that it’s reasonably priced and has an easy interface for non-tech-savvy staff. It’s perfect for a nonprofit of our size because it doesn’t overwhelm us with too many bells and whistles.”

For small nonprofits watching every dollar, the value proposition stands out. Megan H. echoed this value proposition: “4aGoodCause is a really great value for the money. It has a lot of the donor and event management features that more expensive platforms have, but at a price that was very easy to stomach for a small non-profit!”

Christina T. summarized it well: “4aGoodCause has been a game-changer for our organization. The platform is intuitive, reliable, and makes it easy to launch campaigns, process donations, and engage supporters effectively.”

Bloomerang vs. DonorSnap vs. 4aGoodCause: Pricing breakdown

Understanding the real investment means looking at how pricing scales as you grow, what features cost extra, and which fees might catch you by surprise down the road.

Bloomerang’s pricing explained

Bloomerang’s website includes “starting prices,” but how much you will actually end up paying depends on the number of constituent records in your donor database, as well as if you’re just using the CRM or adding on the volunteer features and fundraising suite.

  • Bloomerang CRM starts around $125/month and increases as your database grows
  • You’re locked into Bloomerang’s payment processing
  • Processing fees are a bit higher per transaction + an added 1% fee for peer-to-peer fundraising transactions
  • Additional costs to add on Bloomerang Volunteer and Bloomerang Fundraising

But based on my conversations with nonprofits evaluating the platform, organizations are typically investing somewhere between $5,000 and $12,000 (or more) per year.

DonorSnap pricing

DonorSnap uses tiered pricing based on contact count, starting at $50/month for up to 1,000 contacts and scaling up to $250/month for up to 30,000 contacts. Custom pricing is available for larger databases.

Additional costs:

  • EventSnap: $100-$800/year + 1-5% event fee (depending on tier)
  • AuctionSnap: starts at $500/year + 1% event fee
  • Site Setup Fee: $200
  • Payment processing: Either Stripe (2.2% + $0.30) + $10/month integration fee, or goEmerchant (2.2-2.7% + $0.30) + $15/month

Important considerations:

  • The base CRM pricing is affordable, but fundraising capabilities are very limited
  • Event and auction tools cost extra and have separate pricing structures
  • Payment processing setup may not be portable if you leave the platform
  • Minimal integrations mean you may need additional tools for mass email marketing, text-to-donate, etc.

4aGoodCause pricing

4aGC uses a transparent, flat-fee pricing model designed for predictability:

  • Grassroots: $99/month ($1,188/year) – Process up to $50K online
  • Growing: $199/month ($2,388/year) – Process up to $250K online
  • Enterprise: $299/month ($3,588/year) – Unlimited processing

What’s included at every tier:

  • Unlimited users, unlimited pages, unlimited campaigns, unlimited transactions
  • Monthly giving toolkit with donor portal
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising, event registration, and text-to-donate
  • Light CRM for donor management
  • Integrations with thousands of apps via Zapier
  • Free human customer support

Payment processing:

  • Use our built-in processing or bring your own payment processor
  • Key difference: When you enable optional donor tips (max 4%), 100% of those tips go to your nonprofit—not to us

The pricing is predictable. You know exactly what you’ll pay each month, and there are no surprise increases when your donor database grows.

As a small and growing nonprofit, we need a fundraising platform that serves not only our budgetary needs but also provides a seamless experience for our donors AND for us as well. 4aGC checks ALL the boxes. Excellent product and the best customer care around! Highly recommend!

Bloomerang vs. DonorSnap vs. 4aGoodCause: Which is right for you?

I’ve been supporting nonprofits for over 25 years, and the truth is: there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.

Here’s my honest take on when each platform makes the most sense:

Choose Bloomerang if:

  • You’re a small to mid-size nonprofit primarily focused on donor relationship building and long-term retention
  • You need sophisticated donor analytics and predictive insights
  • You want strong email marketing tools built into your CRM
  • You’re willing to pay more for a polished, modern interface
  • You need extensive third-party integrations via Zapier
  • You’re comfortable with per-record pricing that increases as you grow
  • You have the budget to add on fundraising and volunteer modules or plan to integrate with other platforms for those capabilities

Not ideal if: You’re looking for an affordable all-in-one fundraising platform, or if unpredictable cost increases as your database grows are a concern.

Choose DonorSnap if:

  • You’re a very small nonprofit on a tight budget
  • You primarily need a simple donor database for tracking contacts and donations
  • You don’t need online fundraising tools beyond basic forms for online donations
  • You value month-to-month flexibility without long-term contracts
  • You’re okay with a less modern interface in exchange for affordability

Not ideal if: You need robust fundraising tools, donor self-service, peer-to-peer campaigns, or extensive integrations. Also not ideal if you want to grow a monthly giving program—DonorSnap just isn’t built for that.

Choose 4aGoodCause if:

  • Your primary goal is raising money online, not just tracking donors
  • You want to launch or grow a monthly giving program alongside traditional fundraising efforts (see examples of successful monthly giving programs and their impact)
  • You need high-converting donation forms and donor-friendly checkout experiences
  • You need peer-to-peer fundraising, event registration, and text-to-donate
  • You prefer predictable, transparent pricing
  • You want donor tips to benefit your organization, not the software company
  • You want free, experienced human support without paying extra
  • You’re a small nonprofit that doesn’t need a heavy-duty CRM—light donor management is enough, OR you already have a CRM and need better fundraising tools to integrate with it

Not ideal if: You’re a large nonprofit needing deep CRM customization, grant management workflows, membership management, or auction capabilities.

Do you need a CRM or do you need better fundraising?

Here’s the question I encourage small nonprofits to really think through before committing to a platform:

Are you trying to manage donors better, or are you trying to raise more money?

If the honest answer is “raise more money,” then starting with a CRM might be backwards.

CRM platforms like Bloomerang and DonorSnap are good at what they do: organizing donor data, tracking relationships, generating reports. But they’re not primarily designed to drive fundraising results.

4aGoodCause is different.

We start with fundraising effectiveness (high-converting forms, monthly giving tools, donor self-service, peer-to-peer campaigns) and include enough donor management to run a successful small to mid-size nonprofit.

Then, if you grow to the point where you need a sophisticated CRM, you can add one and integrate it with 4aGC via Zapier. Many of our clients do exactly this… they use 4aGC for fundraising execution and then add on Bloomerang or Little Green Light or another CRM as their donor database of record.

The result?

  • Better fundraising outcomes (our average monthly donor gives $660/year vs. the $288 national benchmark)
  • Predictable costs
  • Donor tips that benefit your mission, not a software company
  • A platform designed to help you actually raise money, not just track it after the fact

Does 4aGoodCause integrate with Bloomerang or DonorSnap?

Let’s take a closer look at both of these platforms.

4aGoodCause + Bloomerang: Seamless integration

Bloomerang offers robust integration capabilities through Zapier, and 4aGoodCause connects to 10000+ third-party apps via Zapier as well. This means you can easily sync donation data, donor records, and campaign information between the two platforms.

Common setup: Use 4aGoodCause for all online fundraising (donation forms, monthly giving, peer-to-peer campaigns, events) and Bloomerang as your donor database of record. Donations flow automatically into Bloomerang, while you benefit from 4aGC’s superior fundraising tools and donor self-service portal.

4aGoodCause + DonorSnap: Integration is limited

Here’s where it gets tricky. DonorSnap doesn’t offer Zapier integration, which significantly limits your ability to connect it with other platforms. While DonorSnap does integrate with a few services (QuickBooks, Constant Contact, Stripe), there’s currently no direct or third-party integration path between DonorSnap and 4aGoodCause.

Your options if you’re using DonorSnap:

  1. Manual data management: Export donation data from 4aGC and import it into DonorSnap periodically
  2. Consider switching CRMs: If integration is important, explore a CRM with better connectivity

Many small nonprofits worry that using two systems (a CRM and a fundraising platform) will create extra work. In practice, it often creates less work because:

  • Each platform does what it’s best at
  • Modern integrations sync data automatically
  • You avoid forcing one platform to do things it wasn’t designed for
  • Your team uses the right tool for each job

The key is choosing platforms that actually integrate well. Bloomerang + 4aGoodCause works smoothly. DonorSnap + anything requires manual workarounds.

If you’re committed to DonorSnap but need better fundraising tools, you’ll need to weigh whether the manual data transfer is worth it—or if switching to a more integration-friendly CRM (like Bloomerang) makes more sense for your long-term strategy.
