What Zeffy does well
Zeffy positions itself as a truly free platform because it covers:

Zeffy limitations
While Zeffy’s model sounds appealing, it comes with trade-offs. You can’t customize the suggested tip percentages, which can be as high as 17-22% on smaller donations. And all donor tips go to Zeffy, not your organization. That’s generosity that could be fueling your mission.
Additionally, because the platform is “free,” it typically offers fewer features, integrations, and tools than paid solutions. That may be workable for a brand-new organization, but limitations can become more noticeable as fundraising efforts grow more sophisticated.
Zeffy may serve as a starting point for very small nonprofits, but as organizations scale, the potential downsides (like reduced functionality, lost revenue opportunities through donor tips, and possible strain on donor confidence) can become significant.
Zeffy user feedback
Zeffy earns strong overall ratings (4.9/5 on G2 and 4.8/5 on Capterra), with users praising the zero upfront cost and ease of use. However, two consistent patterns emerge in user reviews: lack of features and a confusing donor tip experience.
Jessie B. on Capterra notes that “the product is still new so it doesn’t have quite as many features as other similar products.” Lauren R. has similar feedback on her G2 review: “It doesn’t offer the same depth of integrations, advanced reporting, or built-in marketing automation that some larger, paid platforms provide.”

Best for: Mid-size nonprofits that need a modern, full-featured donor CRM and have a budget for that investment.
What Bloomerang does well
Retention-focused database. Bloomerang’s CRM is built around donor retention metrics and engagement scoring.
Modern interface. Clean, intuitive design that’s easier to use than older CRM platforms.
Strong integrations. Bloomerang natively integrates to other tech providers (like Constant Contact, Mailchimp, and QuickBooks) and also has a Zapier integration, making it easy to connect to thousands of platforms (including 4aGoodCause).
All-in-one approach. A fundraising solution that is trying to be everything: CRM, fundraising tools, volunteer and event management, and email marketing.
Bloomerang limitations
Based on my review of their platform, Bloomerang can get expensive quickly. If you want features like fundraising pages, you’ll need to add on Boomerang Fundraising (formerly Qgiv). Need volunteer management tools? You need Boomerang Volunteer. And yes, both of those modules cost extra on top of the CRM cost.
They also want to lock you into their payment processor, which adds additional costs beyond the base subscription. And while they talk a lot about donor retention, they don’t have the robust monthly giving toolkit features like upgrade links or donor-specific monthly giving portals that 4aGoodCause offers.
4aGoodCause integrates seamlessly with Bloomerang (via Zapier), making it easy to take a hybrid approach—leveraging Bloomerang’s modern CRM capabilities while using 4aGoodCause to power and grow a strong monthly giving program. It’s a smart, strategic setup that many nonprofits find highly effective.

The CRM capabilities and engagement tracking get frequent mentions as strengths. However, reviewers note that costs can climb quickly as you add modules, which you need if you really want sophisticated fundraising tools.
In her Capterra review, Kylee L. says, “Some features do not exist or require additional payment. For instance, it would be great if the volunteers feature came with Bloomerang rather than an additional paid option.”

Alternative #4: Little Green Light—affordable CRM for small nonprofits
Best for: Small nonprofits that need an affordable donor database and are willing to integrate with a separate platform for fundraising tools.
What Little Green Light (LGL) does well
Cost-effective. One of the most budget-friendly donor CRMs available ($75/month for up to 10,000 contacts).
Robust contact management. Good for tracking major gifts, managing volunteers, and organizing donor data.
Built-in direct mail tools. Generate direct mail letters and manage mailing lists.
Zapier integration. Can connect to thousands of software platforms, including 4aGoodCause.
Little Green Light limitations
LGL has very limited fundraising tools and donation pages.
Their “online donations” feature is essentially a basic form builder—nowhere near as robust or user-friendly as dedicated fundraising platforms.
From my experience helping clients move from LGL to 4aGoodCause, I can tell you their campaign pages and forms are:
Complicated to build and require understanding form field mapping
Not optimized for conversions (often embedded forms with multiple steps)
Limited payment options— LGL runs on Stripe, and while Apple Pay and Google Pay are theoretically possible, enabling them requires your team to configure Stripe settings directly—something most small nonprofits aren’t equipped to do.
Lacking any meaningful monthly giving toolkit features for recurring donations
Little Green Light has a loyal user base that values its affordability and solid donor management features. Reviews frequently mention it as one of the best-priced CRMs for small nonprofits. It has 4.8 stars on Capterra and 4.4 on G2.
However, users are candid about the limitations: the fundraising forms are basic at best, and the interface can feel dated compared to newer platforms. Many users solve this by pairing LGL with a dedicated fundraising platform—which is exactly what several of our 4aGoodCause clients do via Zapier.

Workflows and automation. Built for organizations that need automated acknowledgments, fundraising letters, and detailed reporting to increase donor engagement.
Constant Contact integration. Strong integration with Constant Contact for email communications (similar to how 4aGoodCause integrates with Mailchimp).
QuickBooks integration. Solid integration for financial management and accounting.
DonorPerfect limitations
Here’s the hard truth: DonorPerfect’s fundraising tools are just not great. Their “DonorPerfect Online Forms” are outdated and break virtually every best practice for online donation forms. They’re:
Not optimized for monthly giving
Not user-friendly for donors
Often embedded forms that lack modern payment methods
Limited in customization and campaign functionality
The other major issue: DonorPerfect doesn’t integrate with Zapier. That means it’s very difficult to connect DonorPerfect to modern fundraising platforms like 4aGoodCause.
They’ve created their own closed ecosystem, and if you want better fundraising features, you’re often stuck manually exporting and importing donation data.
Their pricing isn’t publicly listed anymore, and from what I’ve seen, they charge based on the number of contacts in your database. For many nonprofits, that can get expensive quickly.
DonorPerfect user feedback
DonorPerfect reviews (4.5 on Capterra and 4.4 on G2) paint a picture of CRM that excels at traditional donor management and reporting. Long-time users appreciate the depth of functionality for tracking complex donor relationships and generating detailed reports.
The common criticism? The interface feels outdated, the learning curve is steep, and the online fundraising tools lag far behind modern platforms. Miriam P. (in her G2 review) says DonorPerfect is “clunky to use,” and she doesn’t like that she “can’t customize fundraising pages.”
Overall, DonorPerfect is a strong database if you need comprehensive CRM features and don’t mind dealing with some of the platform’s clunky functionality. But if you want ease of use, modern fundraising tools, and monthly giving program growth? You’ll need something else.
