The Best Eventbrite Alternatives for Nonprofits Focused on Fundraising Growth

4aGoodCause blog post featured image

When evaluating Eventbrite alternatives, here’s the key difference: some tools are built for ticketing. Others are built for nonprofit fundraising—with event tools included.

That distinction matters.

I’ve seen too many nonprofits use Eventbrite for a gala or community event, then realize they still need separate tools for donations, recurring giving, donor management, and donor follow-up. Suddenly, they’re paying for multiple platforms just to support one fundraising strategy.

If your event is mainly about registrations, a simple ticketing platform may be enough. But if your event is meant to drive donations and long-term donor relationships, a nonprofit fundraising platform can help you raise more money and keep supporters engaged long after the event ends.

This guide explores six Eventbrite alternatives for nonprofits (including both ticketing-focused platforms and fundraising platforms with built-in event tools), so you can decide which approach makes the most sense for your organization.

In this guide, we’ll cover:

Important note: There are no affiliate links in this article. I wasn’t paid to review these platforms. While I do share how 4aGoodCause stacks up (yes, that’s the platform I built with my team), this guide aims to help you make the best, most informed decision for your mission.

Why small to midsize nonprofits look for Eventbrite alternatives

Before diving into alternatives, let’s be clear about what Eventbrite does well—and where it falls short for nonprofit fundraising.

What Eventbrite does well:

  • Straightforward ticketing: Eventbrite handles ticket sales in a straightforward way for event organizers. It’s well-known, the checkout process and mobile app work well, and you can create event pages without much technical knowledge.
  • Public event discovery: If you’re running a public event (like a 5K run or community festival), Eventbrite’s marketplace might help people discover your event. How often does that actually happen? Not often. Eventbrite features so many events, so people finding out about your cause that way is not likely.
  • Free events are free: You can list free events without paying Eventbrite fees. If you’re just managing registrations for a free community event, it works fine.
  • Email promotion tools: Eventbrite includes basic promotional email tools with its standard plans, including a limited number of marketing emails per day. If your organization needs to send larger email campaigns or access more advanced social media features, you’ll need to upgrade to one of Eventbrite’s Pro plans, which range from roughly $15/month to $100/month. Nonprofit organizations can apply for discounted pricing, but that requires an additional approval process.

Why you might need an alternative:

  • The fees really stack up: For paid events in the U.S., pricing is “steep”, as a verified reviewer on Capterra puts it. Here’s how Eventbrite’s fee structure works: they charge 3.7% + $1.79 per paid ticket, plus an additional 2.9% payment processing fee on the total order amount. On a $50 ticket, that’s $3.64 in ticketing fees plus $1.45 in processing fees—$5.09 total, or about 10% of the ticket price. Attendees can choose to cover these fees at checkout, but there’s no option to bring your own payment processor, so you’re locked into Eventbrite’s fee structure.
  • Not built around nonprofit fundraising: Eventbrite sells tickets. That’s it. There’s no built-in strategy to accept donations, turn attendees into monthly donors, or manage donor relationships long-term.
  • Limited customization options: Eventbrite’s customization features are fairly restrictive, making it difficult to create an on-brand experience. As Celine W. notes on Capterra: “There isn’t much in regards to being able to really customize it….[y]ou can’t change the theme to better reflect your event.”
  • You don’t control your payment processing: Eventbrite processes payments through its own system, so you can’t connect your own Stripe account, negotiate lower rates, or fully control payouts and refunds. That can make cancellations and refund requests more frustrating to manage. Funds also aren’t paid out immediately when tickets are sold—Eventbrite typically releases payouts several days after your event ends, which can create cash flow challenges for nonprofits covering upfront event costs.
  • Confusing pricing structure: Free events are free, but paid ticketing gets complicated fast. Between the base fees, payment processing, and optional email promotion plans ($15-$100/month with nonprofit discounts available but requiring application), it’s hard to predict what you’ll actually pay.

The right alternative depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. But for most use cases, there are better options designed specifically for nonprofits.

⭐️ What if there’s an easier way to maximize donations? There is. It’s called recurring monthly giving, and it generates 2.4X more revenue on average than one-time gifts. And our Monthly Giving Toolkit simplifies the whole program.

The 6 best Eventbrite alternatives for small to midsize nonprofits

There’s no single “best” Eventbrite alternative for every nonprofit. The right choice depends on whether your priority is lower-cost ticketing, better fundraising functionality, stronger donor retention tools—or all of the above.

Let’s take a look at these alternatives one by one.

Alternative #1: 4aGoodCause—Event registration and donations in one place

Best for: Small to midsize nonprofits that want event registration plus fundraising tools, all in one system

I built 4aGoodCause because the real question is whether a platform can help you sell tickets AND raise money from the event itself. That’s where Eventbrite falls short, and where 4aGoodCause is designed to excel.

Picture your next gala with 4aGoodCause: You take registrations, sell sponsorships, track who actually shows up, and collect extra donations at the event itself… all in one place, with every attendee and donor flowing into the same system. That’s the kind of end-to-end event workflow 4aGC is built to handle, so nothing slips through the cracks between ticketing and follow-up.

4aGoodCause strengths:

  • Event registration and donations together: You get event management software and donation pages in one platform. Attendees can add a donation on top of their ticket purchase—right at checkout. You’re not juggling Eventbrite for ticketing and a separate tool for donation functionality. It’s all in one place.
  • Text-to-donate at your event: Give attendees a simple way to donate right from their seats with built-in text-to-donate, and build branded landing pages to promote the event beforehand. You capture gifts in the moment (and drum up support before the doors even open!) without bolting on another tool.
  • Free event support: You can run free event registration just like you would with Eventbrite—but you also have the option to accept donations at registration.
  • Branded event pages match your fundraising pages: Everything is consistent, professional, and optimized for conversions instead of being cluttered with Eventbrite branding.
  • Donor tips go 100% to your nonprofit: If attendees choose to cover processing fees, that money goes entirely to your organization, not to the platform. With 4aGoodCause, you keep it all.
  • Turn event attendees into recurring donors over time: This is the big one. You’re not just collecting ticket orders. You’re capturing donor and attendee data in a single system that you can follow up with. You can turn these event attendees into monthly donors. Everything lives in one place—events, monthly giving, donations, and light CRM. All the reporting is included.
  • Flat-rate, predictable pricing: No per-transaction fees. You pay a simple monthly fee ($99, $199, or $299 based on annual processing volume), and you keep more of what you raise.
  • Simple CRM included: Track donors, manage event attendees, see who’s giving—all without needing an enterprise database.

Limitations:

  • Not a dedicated ticketing marketplace: 4aGoodCause isn’t trying to be a massive ticketing marketplace where people browse for concerts, festivals, or local events. It’s a fundraising platform that includes event registration tools—not a discovery engine.
  • Not an enterprise-level CRM: 4aGoodCause also isn’t positioned as a massive enterprise CRM built for highly complex development operations. Organizations who need extensive workflows or highly customized reporting may need an enterprise-level system.

Compared to Eventbrite: Eventbrite is good at selling tickets. It has a strong checkout process for just selling tickets. 4aGoodCause is good at raising money, from events, from monthly giving campaigns, and from everyday online donations.

Built for small nonprofits. Proven to perform.

4aGoodCause donation pages convert at 27% on average—more than double the industry benchmark—with nearly 100 best practices built in from day one. Book a demo to learn more.

4aGoodCause Pricing: Starting at $99/month (process up to $40K/year), $199/month (up to $200K/year), or $299/month (unlimited). No platform fees.

4aGoodCause user reviews:

When nonprofits start researching event platforms, they’re usually looking for ticketing and registration tools. But the real question emerges quickly: Will this platform just manage my events, or will it actually help me grow fundraising while keeping more of what I raise?

4aGoodCause users consistently highlight that they found both—comprehensive features that support real fundraising growth, at pricing that doesn’t eat into their donations.

Megan H. shares about using 4aGoodCause event features in her G2 review: “4aGoodCause is a really great value for the money. It has a lot of the donor and event management features that more expensive platforms have, but at a price that was very easy to stomach for a small non-profit!”

Similarly, Jeff L. says that using 4aGoodCause “has been a real boost to our Rotary Club fundraising and event management.” His review continues: “[We] were going to use [4aGC] for just 1 event/campaign, and now we are using it for multiple campaigns.”

Reviewers also frequently note how easy it is to use the platform, as well as the fundraising growth they’ve seen from prioritizing monthly giving. In her G2 review, Lisa K. says: “The ease of use is fantastic; the platform is super intuitive.” She specifically highlights the impact of 4aGC’s monthly giving resources: “Recurring donations have become a huge portion of our annual donation revenue.”

For nonprofits looking beyond basic event registration software, these reviews paint a picture of a platform built to support long-term fundraising growth… not just event logistics. (Read more reviews here.)

Pro tip: If Eventbrite is truly working for your organization, you can continue to use it and add on 4aGC for everything else—monthly giving, online campaigns, smaller events, and peer-to-peer fundraising.

Alternative #2: Zeffy—Zero platform fees with donor-funded model

Zeffy’s pitch is simple: zero fees for nonprofits. Instead of charging you, they add an optional “tip” at checkout—typically 15-20% of the donation or ticket price. Donors can opt out, but many don’t realize the tip is optional.

Zeffy strengths:

  • Free to your organization: No monthly fees, no setup costs. You can start accepting donations and selling event tickets immediately. “Free” is one of the major pros mentioned in Zeffy reviews.
  • Decent feature set: Donation pages, event ticketing, peer-to-peer campaigns, and basic email marketing tools. For a free platform, it covers the essentials.

Limitations:

  • Donor tips can create trust issues: Many donors don’t realize the suggested platform tip is optional, which can lead to frustration when they notice unexpected additional charges during checkout. And even when donors do try to remove the tip, reviews (like this one from Denise C.) describe the opt-out process as clunky and confusing. For nonprofits, that kind of friction can undermine donor trust.
  • You don’t own payment processing: Zeffy acts as the merchant of record. This is important because it means you’re not in control of the money flow to your organization. You want to be the one processing the card so that your name appears on the donor’s credit card statement and you’re in control of refunds. Since Zeffy is the merchant of record and owns the Stripe account you process through, you cannot assume that if you leave Zeffy, you’ll be able to take any data out of that account. That makes it very hard to migrate recurring donors to another platform.
  • Limited monthly giving tools: No upgrade links, no branded donor portal, and no real focus on converting one-time donors into recurring supporters. Lauren R. notes a common tradeoff with “free” platforms in her review: “While it’s incredibly cost-effective and easy to use, it doesn’t offer the same depth of integrations, advanced reporting, or built-in marketing automation that some larger, paid platforms provide.”

Compared to Eventbrite: Zeffy is free to you but funded by donors. Eventbrite charges you directly. If you’re okay asking donors to subsidize your software, Zeffy works for small, straightforward events. But if you want predictable pricing and donor-friendly checkout, flat-rate platforms make more sense.

Zeffy Pricing: Free (funded by optional donor tips averaging 15-20%)

📚Did you know? “Free” fundraising software can cost you (and your donors) a ton. Our team completed a full comprehensive analysis: The Real Cost of Free Fundraising Software.

Alternative #3: Givebutter—Feature-rich platform with donor-tip pricing

Givebutter is trying to be everything to everybody—donation pages, peer-to-peer campaigns, event ticketing, text-to-give, and even a CRM. Their feature set is impressive, and the interface is modern and user-friendly.

Givebutter strengths:

  • Extensive features: Donation pages, events, peer-to-peer fundraising, email marketing, and a donor CRM all in one platform. In a Capterra review, Dali W. says setting up events with Givebutter was a “seamless process.”
  • Good for event registration: Handles different event ticket types well, with options to add donations, sell merchandise, and manage attendees.
  • “Free” option: Like Zeffy, the free plan is funded by optional donor tips (13-19% by default).

Limitations:

  • Donor tip controversy: The tip defaults to 13–19%, and many donors don’t realize it’s optional. This has sparked criticism, with frustrated donors on Reddit complaining that the interface is designed to obscure the optional nature of the fee. For nonprofits, the downside is clear: Donors may leave the experience feeling frustrated or misled, and money that donors may have intended to give to your mission is instead going to the platform.
  • Givebutter Plus is an additional cost: To skip donor tips and use the CRM seriously, you’ll pay per-contact pricing. A user on Capterra expressed frustration that features once included in the platform later moved behind a paywall. For small nonprofits trying to plan long term, that can make the “free” model feel less predictable over time.
  • Stripe-only: No payment processor choice. You’re locked into Stripe.

Compared to Eventbrite: Givebutter is better than Eventbrite for fundraising features—you get donation options, peer-to-peer tools, and a CRM. But both rely on fees that eat into revenue: Eventbrite charges you directly, while Givebutter asks donors to subsidize the platform.

Givebutter Pricing: Free with donor tips (13-19% default), or Givebutter Plus ($129/mo for 2,500 contacts)

Alternative #4: Ticket Tailor—Lower-cost ticketing with more nonprofit control

Ticket Tailor is an event management platform built for events and attractions.

They advertise 85¢ per ticket sold for standard events, but a 50% discount for nonprofits. That plus standard credit card processing (2.9% + 30¢) makes it cheaper than Eventbrite—and they’ve built in key features for nonprofit fundraising events.

Ticket Tailor strengths:

  • Low flat fee per ticket: 85¢ per paid ticket (with a potential 50% discount for nonprofits) plus standard credit card processing. Much cheaper than Eventbrite’s 3.7% + $1.79. On Capterra, Adam B. calls it a “great value.”
  • Customizable event pages: Drag-and-drop builder lets you match your branding. Unlike Eventbrite, there’s no Ticket Tailor logo plastered on your pages.
  • Strong customer support: Users consistently praise Ticket Tailor’s U.S.-based support.

Limitations:

  • Limited flexibility for more complex events: In a Capterra review, Munir S. says, “The interface can feel somewhat limited when setting up more complex or large-scale events, and customization options aren’t as flexible as expected.” Customization options, workflows, and backend navigation may not feel as robust for organizations with more advanced event needs.
  • Lack of fundraising features: While Ticket Tailor handles ticketing well, fundraising features are fairly light compared to nonprofit-focused platforms. Organizations looking for built-in donation tools, recurring giving, donor management, or year-round fundraising support need something more robust.

Compared to Eventbrite: Ticket Tailor is significantly cheaper (as low as 85¢ vs. Eventbrite’s 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket), but it still lacks fundraising functionality that nonprofits need.

Ticket Tailor Pricing: as low as 85¢ per paid ticket (with a potential 50% discount) + 2.9% + 30¢ payment processing

Bigger gifts start with better design.

The average one-time gift on 4aGoodCause donation pages is $281, compared to an industry average of $126.

Alternative #5: OneCause—Enterprise event platform for high-production galas

Owned by Bonterra, OneCause is built for big, high-production fundraising events—think galas, auctions, mobile bidding, and on-site event support.

If you’re running a major annual fundraiser with hundreds of attendees and need features like mobile bidding, table assignments, live auction tools, and complex event planning workflows, OneCause is designed for that kind of large-scale event experience.

OneCause strengths:

  • Event powerhouse: Excels at complex event types—auctions, mobile bidding, paddle raises, seating charts, and volunteer coordination.
  • On-site staff support: You can pay for OneCause staff to come on-site and help manage check-in, bidding, and paddle raises. Lidia C. raves about the on-site support, calling the event specialist a “total game-changer.”

Limitations:

  • Custom pricing can get expensive: OneCause doesn’t publish pricing. Costs can be significant, especially with on-site staff support.
  • Donation pages aren’t their priority: Their donation forms are clunky: multi-step, dated design, not optimized for conversions.
  • It’s a complex system: While many users say the platform is intuitive once you get up and running, it has a “large learning curve” according to Daunel C.
  • No focus on monthly giving: OneCause is all about event revenue. They don’t emphasize recurring donations, monthly giving toolkits, or donor portals. (Learn more about the benefits of monthly giving.)
  • You have limited payment processing options. They support Stripe and their own “OneCause Payments,” but you don’t get to bring your own processor and negotiate your own rates. That lack of flexibility can really increase your overall costs over time.

Compared to Eventbrite: OneCause is more specialized and expensive. If you need auction tools and complex event logistics, OneCause is better than Eventbrite, especially for nonprofits. If you need fundraising tools beyond events, neither is ideal—4aGoodCause is a better fit.

OneCause Pricing: Custom pricing (contact for quote)

Pro tip: Nonprofits can use OneCause for their one annual gala and 4aGC for everything else—monthly giving, online campaigns, and peer-to-peer fundraising. You don’t have to pick just one.

With customizations for the messaging and the communication that we can now give to our current donors [with 4aGoodCause], not only are we going to see higher donor retention rates, but we're also going to see a better relationship with our donors.

Alternative #6: BetterWorld—Event-focused with confusing pricing

BetterWorld positions itself similarly to OneCause—in-person events, virtual events, hybrid event options, ticketing, auctions, raffles, and paddle raises.

From what I’ve seen, events are definitely their specialty. But their pricing structure is convoluted, and I have some concerns about transparency.

BetterWorld strengths:

  • Event tools: Auctions, raffles, ticketing, and paddle raises—focused on in-person and online events.
  • Multiple page types: Standalone donation pages, embedded forms, and popup options.

Limitations:

  • Donor tip model: If you want to use the “free” version of BetterWorld, you’ll have to have donor tips enabled, which can be a real frustration point for donors. Reviewer Mitzi N. says her organization received multiple donor complaints about unexpected fees appearing during the donation process using BetterWorld. Want to disable the donor tip feature? You’ll need to move to a paid plan—more on that below.
  • Confusing pricing structure: BetterWorld markets itself as “free,” but the actual pricing can be difficult to follow. Even with donor tips enabled, you’ll pay hefty payment processing fees—2.9% + $0.30 in processing fees—already higher than Stripe’s standard nonprofit rate. BetterWorld also adds a 0.25% fraud protection fee, bringing the total to roughly 3.15%. And if you choose to disable donor tips, BetterWorld replaces that model with platform fees instead. Depending on the plan, nonprofits may pay anywhere from 2.2–5% per transaction, or upgrade to higher-tier plans starting at $129/month plus an additional 1.25% platform fee. Between donor tips, processing costs, fraud fees, and platform fees, the pricing structure can feel layered and hard to predict.
  • No CRM: BetterWorld is fundraising-focused. You’re not really keeping all your donor data here. You’re not managing donor relationships long-term.
  • Donation pages aren’t great: Lots of steps, clunky design, not optimized for conversions. If you’re trying to build online giving, you’ll want something better.

Compared to Eventbrite: BetterWorld and Eventbrite can appeal to similar markets. Eventbrite has a stronger reputation and simpler pricing. BetterWorld offers a “free” option if you’re comfortable with donor tips, but the layered fees and lack of transparency make it hard to recommend.

BetterWorld Pricing: Forever free with 10% donor tips + 3.15% processing, or paid plans starting around 2.2-5% platform fees

FAQs for small nonprofits evaluating Eventbrite alternatives

These are some of the most common questions nonprofits ask when they start looking into other event ticketing platforms besides Eventbrite:

  1. Why are Eventbrite’s fees so high for nonprofits?
  2. Are donor-tip platforms like Zeffy and Givebutter really “free”?
  3. What if I just need straightforward event registration?
  4. Can I bring my own payment processor with these platforms?
  5. How do I turn event attendees into monthly donors?
  6. What’s the biggest mistake nonprofits make with event platforms?
  7. Do I need a separate CRM if I’m using an event platform?

Don’t see your question here? I’ve got 25+ years of experience in supporting nonprofits. Feel free to contact me!

1. Why are Eventbrite’s fees so high for nonprofits?

Eventbrite charges 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket plus 2.9% payment processing on the total order. That is a lot. The reason is simple: Eventbrite is a for-profit company serving all kinds of events—not just nonprofits.

They’re not optimizing for mission-driven organizations trying to maximize event revenue. And when attendees check the box to cover fees, that money goes to Eventbrite, not to your mission. You’re essentially asking your supporters to fund Eventbrite’s business model.

💡Fun fact: All donor tips through 4aGoodCause go directly to your organization—not the platform.

2. Are donor-tip platforms like Zeffy and Givebutter really “free”?

Technically, yes, they are free for the nonprofit. You don’t pay for the platform directly. But the platform still has to get paid, which means you’re asking donors to fund your software. I’ve seen this model create friction in the giving experience for donors which can be a big problem.

Some supporters resent being asked to tip on top of their gift, and that 15-20% going to the platform is generosity that could have gone to your mission. If you want predictable, donor-friendly pricing, flat-rate platforms like 4aGC make more sense.

3. What if I just need straightforward event registration?

Maybe Eventbrite works if all you need is ticketing and you’re willing to pay the platform costs. The checkout process is solid, and it’s straightforward. Ticket Tailor is cheaper and has better customer support, so that’s worth considering too.

But here’s the thing: If your event is also a fundraising opportunity—and for most nonprofits, it is—Eventbrite won’t help you there. You can’t capture donations on top of ticket orders. You can’t turn attendees into monthly donors. You’re just selling tickets.

That’s where a platform like 4aGoodCause makes more sense. You get event registration, but you also get the add-on donation option on event pages, you’re capturing donor data in a single system that you can follow up with, and you can turn those folks into recurring donors over time. The event is not just about registration—it’s about fundraising.

4. Can I bring my own payment processor with these platforms?

It depends on the platform.

4aGoodCause and Ticket Tailor let you connect your own Stripe or Authorize.net account, which gives your organization far more control over how donations and event revenue are handled. You own the payment relationship, can negotiate nonprofit processing rates directly, and have more flexibility if you ever switch platforms in the future. Funds also typically move more directly into your organization’s bank account rather than being routed through a third party first.

Platforms like Eventbrite, Zeffy, Givebutter, and BetterWorld manage payment processing within their own ecosystem instead. While some may use providers like Stripe behind the scenes, the nonprofit typically doesn’t own the processing relationship. That can limit flexibility around payouts, portability, branding, and long-term control over your fundraising infrastructure.

Eventbrite, for example, handles payouts on its own schedule, with standard payouts typically beginning 3-5 days after an event concludes instead of when a ticket is purchased.

💡Did you know? With other donor CRM and fundraising software, leaving can mean starting your monthly giving program over. With 4aGoodCause, it’s as simple as taking your donors (and their info) securely with you.

5. How do I turn event attendees into monthly donors?

If you’re asking this question, that’s a definite sign that you need a platform that provides more than Eventbrite.

The key to turning event attendees into regular givers is having a system that connects events and ongoing fundraising.

With 4aGoodCause, event attendees are already in your donor database. You can follow up with targeted campaigns, take monthly donations at the event via text-to-donate, and give them access to a branded donor portal where they can manage their giving. Eventbrite doesn’t do any of that—it’s just ticketing.

6. What’s the biggest mistake nonprofits make with event platforms?

Treating events as one-time transactions instead of donor acquisition opportunities.

Too many nonprofits use Eventbrite, sell tickets, run the event, and then the relationship ends. The real opportunity is turning those attendees into monthly donors, and that requires a platform that connects events, donations, and long-term donor management. Eventbrite doesn’t do that. Platforms like 4aGoodCause do.

7. Do I need a separate CRM if I’m using an event platform?

Most event platforms—like Eventbrite, Ticket Tailor, OneCause, BetterWorld—don’t include robust donor management. You’ll likely need to pair them with a CRM or use a platform like 4aGoodCause that includes event registration, donations, and essential donor tracking in one system.

4aGoodCause is an intuitive platform for both our team and our donors. The donor experience is seamless, and the reporting tools give us the insights we need without being overwhelming. The customer support has also been exceptional — quick, personal, and genuinely invested in our success.

Final thoughts

The alternatives above fall into two broader categories. Some are dedicated event and ticketing platforms focused primarily on registration and attendee management. Others are fundraising platforms that include event tools as part of a larger donor engagement strategy—helping nonprofits not only run events, but also capture donations, grow recurring giving, and build longer-term supporter relationships.

The right fit depends on your goals.

If you simply need streamlined event registration, a lower-cost ticketing platform may be enough. But if your events are a key part of your fundraising strategy, it’s worth considering tools that combine event registration, donations, donor management, and recurring giving in one system.

I’ve spent over two decades helping nonprofits choose the right tools. If you’re evaluating Eventbrite alternatives and want to talk through what makes sense for your organization, I’d love to help.
