Reduce donor churn with recurring giving alerts
One of the most impactful improvements we introduced is the set of new automated recurring giving alerts. These alerts can have a direct effect on donor retention by addressing payment issues before they cause donors to disengage.
Key alerts that save the day
- Expiring card notices: Donors are reminded when their payment method is about to expire, preventing interruptions before a payment failure even happens.
- Payment failure notices: Both nonprofits and donors get notified when a payment doesn’t go through, allowing donors to take immediate action.
- Failure reminder alerts: If the donor hasn’t updated their information, they’ll get multiple, friendly reminders at regular intervals to bring them back on track.
These emails alert donors when action is needed and directs them to their donor accounts where those updates can be made.

Behind-the-scenes bug hunting
At 4aGoodCause, we pride ourselves on stability, which led us to the next announcement: a deep dive into error logs to ensure a smooth experience for users.
Known as Kaizen—the Japanese concept of continuous improvement—this process is all about making small tweaks to improve your overall experience.
What was improved?
- Background processes: We’ve optimized performance for processes running behind the scenes, ensuring that stats calculations and emails will not be disrupted by resource issues.
- Form validation fixes: We noticed users getting stuck creating fundraiser pages. That’s now fixed.
- Input restrictions: We eliminated bogus data from getting into forms, such as overly long strings of text.
Although some of these fixes may seem small, they ensure that the platform stays robust and ready for donors.
New dashboard stats to benchmark your monthly giving program
We added several new stats that make it easier to monitor the health of your monthly giving program—right from the dashboard.
If you have a monthly giving program (which we strongly recommend!), you’ll love these new metrics.
Monthly recurring revenue (MRR)
Do you know how much you can expect to bring in through your monthly givers each month? Now, with Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), you can. This key metric shows the total income you can count on each month from active donors, helping you better forecast and plan.
Active vs. flagged subscriptions
On the subscription front, you’ll now have a clearer understanding of which donations are successfully processing vs. those that require your attention.
Subscriptions marked as flagged need your attention due to a missed payment or an almost expired card.
By staying on top of flagged subscriptions, you can reduce churn and keep donors engaged.
Statistics show that recurring donors, on average, have a retention rate of 83%, but with focused attention and stewardship, you can push that even higher.
Upgraded and saved subscriptions
Two new metrics we are tracking include:
- Upgraded subscriptions: Donations that have been increased by the donor or your staff.
- Saved subscriptions: Subscriptions that would have been canceled but were kept active due to actions like updating payment methods or downgrading donation amounts instead of canceling.
Increasing these numbers mean greater donor loyalty and increased revenue.

Upcoming feature: Updated Zapier integration
What are we working now? Soon we’ll have an updated Zapier integration, which will make connecting your 4aGoodCause data to other tools even easier.
Nonprofits can look forward to smoother workflows between 4aGoodCause and over 6,000 apps, such as Salesforce or Quickbooks.
This integration will not only save time but also reduce human error by automating manual data processes, freeing up your team to focus on what really matters—impact.
