The mission
KJOL is a local Christian radio station in western Colorado.
Since their founding, they’ve been helping their community “hear the light” through faith-based programming that encourages, uplifts, and supports the community.
They serve a broad age range and focus heavily on spiritual growth, local engagement, and meeting listeners where they are.
The challenge
Before 4aGoodCause, KJOL’s online giving tools were missing the mark. They didn’t include many of the features they needed, and one of the biggest challenges was the ease of use for donors.
“4aGC is night and day from what we had before. There were a fraction of the features that 4aGC offers,” Dave shared.

Monthly donations were hard to process and manage, and the outdated system didn’t instill confidence in donors—especially their older audience.
“Our previous software was secure, but it didn’t have that perception,” Dave explained, “Just the fact that 4aGC looked very professional, offered a lot of features, and was easy for donors to use.” And that made a big difference.
Prior to their switch, the lack of flexibility and poor user experience created friction that limited KJOL’s fundraising efforts.
“Two weeks in from when we went live on air with [4aGC], we got it up and running, and people were definitely taking advantage of it. I was like ‘Wow, this is robust.’”
Dave reported that within a month, they had received four times more in monthly giving donors than what they were experiencing before.

“People like the ease of use and the features. I think they were more conducive to giving because of that.”
Switching to 4aGoodCause gave KJOL a donor-friendly platform with recurring donation features, ACH bank transfers, and polished, branded donation pages.
They leaned into monthly giving as their core strategy, leveraging:
Clean, branded donation forms
Multiple payment options (credit, debit, ACH)
Easy donor management and database tools
Responsive support and ongoing improvements from the 4aGC team
The transformation was immediate. As Dave noted, “We saw a huge jump in [monthly giving] when we went over to 4aGoodCause.”
And according to Dave, “The monthly recurring giving is probably the best way that we can fundraise. Because we can go on the air and say, you know, we’re a listener-supported local Christian radio station.”
Being supported by their community is a key part of their branding.
And the real impact? Within a month of going live on-air with their campaign, KJOL had increased their income stability.
“Probably within a month, we had done four times what we were getting before,” Dave shared. “We find the stability in our financial situation more tied to the recurring gift.”

He also highlighted the emotional impact of small gifts: “It’s not the amount per se; it’s just the beautiful heart behind it.”
Dave also mentioned that a huge driver for them to make the switch from their previous software was that they were looking to reduce data entry time.
“We were trying to simplify the administrative work, and that was a driver, too, for us to make the switch…. We moved all our donor database to 4aGC, and the nice thing is, when the donations come in, you don’t have to add that in because it’s already in your database. It saves time.”
Our team asked Dave what he’s learned from his fundraising efforts over the last few years, and what he would take into future fundraising practices.
“Have as many different ways to give as you can…. And put your donation button in as many places as you can,” Dave encourages.

They use a button in the KJOL listening app that goes directly to their 4aGC-powered donation page, so giving is handy for listeners, no matter what device they use.
He also encouraged other 4aGC users to check out the database features. “We moved all our donor database to 4aGC, and the nice thing is, when the donations come in, you don’t have to add that in because it’s already in your database. It saves time.”

But Dave stressed something else that was important to him and his team, and is an integral part of their fundraising culture: “We don’t want to guilt people into donating. We want something that comes from the heart. We try to have a very guilt-free experience for our listeners, and make it fun, too.”
But his resounding advice to all those working in the nonprofit sector: “Don’t be afraid to share your need.”
“We simply kind of live by faith and it’s kind of scary,” Dave explains. They’ve moved away from share-a-thons to focus on monthly giving and free up more air time to provide uplifting content to their listeners.
“We got some courage and took the step, and now it’s more of a day-to-day fundraising thing. Less less in your face, just a reminder from time to time.”
KJOL continues to grow their base with day-to-day asks, on-air mentions, and an always-on donation presence in their app and events.
When he was initially looking to make the switch in software, he considered “What is the best price, with the most features, with the least work, and the best service? That’s 4aGoodCause for us.” And now they’re embracing bank transfers, adding more payment options as donors request them, and simplifying workflows for their lean team.

But with a listener base that shares a culture of generosity, monthly giving aligns with their listeners’ faith and tithing habits, and they’ve seen the fruits of creating a seamless giving experience for their donors.
